That was then
I’ve been a headphone listener for a long, long time. As a kid I’d sneak a listen to my older brother’s pair of Sennheisers, the model designation of which long escapes me as we are talking about something that occurred close to 30 years ago. Later when I was living on my own, I spent a good number of years as an apartment dweller. Though I always had a pretty good rig, at night I was the considerate neighbor who favored headphones.

It's safe to say that the FiiO E3 produced a bit of a stir amongst headphone enthusiasts when it emerged last summer. While there were headphone amps designed specifically for DAPs and PMPs, like the awesome Graham Slee Voyager, the E3 was a tiny, AAA battery powered marvel that you could pick up for under £10, and one which has a noticeable, positive effect on many combinations of DAP and headphone or earphone. Sure, you could get better quality from a home-built Cmoy am...

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a set of Sennheiser IE8s from an authorized retailer in NYC for the full retail price of $400.
A few weeks later, I saw a pair of Sennheiser IE8s on eBay for around $200. The seller had ~300+ positive feedback and had 100% feedback as well. The pictures that he included all looked like real IE8s when compared to mine.
So I went ahead and purchased them. However, when I got them and listened to them, I immediately knew th...

With so many funky headphone designs flooding the market right now, it's getting harder and harder to choose which one to buy. These headphones are the ultimate in retro chic and are guaranteed to get a few comments, but you won't hear them thanks to the beautiful symphony of sound flooding your ears. For $50, we're hard-pressed to find another set that rivals t... Read More >>

SoundMAGIC PL11 Review
The SoundMAGIC PL11 has pushed the boundaries of what can be expected from an entry level in-ear isolating earphone. For less than the cost of a Playstation game the PL11 offers high end audio clarity, with enough low end power to satisfy the biggest bass-head.
Looking and feeling like an earphone that comes from one of the established brands, the SoundMAGIC PL11 is a newcomer that deserves a second look.

Introduction
I got bored with the sound of the Bijou 2 earphones primarily because of the boomy bass which I did not like too much. So I ordered two earphones and decided to sell the earphone I liked the least. I ordered the PL-30 with FiiO E3 from mp4nation and the Sound magic PL-12 from Focal price.
Well the Pl-30 came first so they are burned in quite nicely. The PL-12 however are still burning in and Ill write a review for them once they finish burning i...

I grabbed a pair of these off ebay. I was curious after I saw them and I also thought the adjustable bass might be good for my AM/FM minidisc since the radio portion has no bass adjustment and my JVC's have a bit too much boom for my taste. After a bit of searching on Soundmagic and decided to give them a try.
They seem to be only available with ebay store/seller Dpmega as of right now. The price was right at about $40. They are $39.90 if you can grab them with one...

I have wanted to make a thread like this for a while now, but have kept putting it off for one reason or another. With all of the threads about EQ popping up recently, I think it is finally time I post this.
This thread is for people who want to get the highest possible fidelity from their headphones. A lot of what I am about to explain will be obvious to more experienced members. But there are people out there who do not even know how to obtain their own pink nois...

I have been a fan of the Soundmagic IEMs since I first heard the PL30s. They have been my unrelenting workout IEM for over nine months and I honestly do consider them one of the best, if not the best, sub-$30 IEMs on the market.
The latest additions to Soundmagic’s lineup, the PL21 and its mic’d cousin, the MP21, cost just over $20 and come in three colors: black, white, and pink. It seems, then, that Soundmagic is targeting the more mainstream color-choosing m...

REVIEW START
Among large mainstream electronic companies, Victor (JVC) have quietly shed traditional speaker manufacturing techniques in creating driver diaphragms from wood rather than synthetic materials. Several of their small cabinet systems utilise wood driver technology, and the FX500 inner earphone also benefits from wood. In 2008, it was the world’s first earphone to employ wood in both its housing and driver diaphragm and is still the on...

Hands down, the MX500 earbuds deliver pristine sound. They’re very comfortable, non-intrusive and great for the gym or the beach.
Sadly, my life is a labyrinth of cords. At the end of my night, my workspace (stage, usually) looks like a giant plate of spaghetti. When a product I really want has a cord involved in its function, I react like someone dropped an ice cube down my pants. That is why I am eternally grateful to Sennheiser, who included a little case ... Read More >>

Very few products survive the test of time. They are replaced with the next new thing even before the consumer can sit and open the box. The thrill is gone before you get the product to work. We live in the era of “pump and dump”—seduced by the dark forces of not-to-clever advertising sound bites, which are only effective because we are bombarded with them and we acquiesce just to make it go away.
A real exception to the rule are the Grado SR60 headphones.
Truly.

There are those in the headphone community who argue that a reference pair of headphones combined with a suitable headphone amplifier and top-notch front-end source is capable of besting a high-end playback system in excess of ten thousand dollars.
A great audio system needs high quality individual components to make a difference. There is also the need for proper room treatment and matching of each segment of the audio chain into a synergistic whole. All of this calls for... Read More >>

In its eighth year, Head-Fi is looking at its biggest product release story since its founding. For years we'd been waiting for a replacement for the HD600, and a few years ago, Sennheiser introduced the HD650, which, to my ears, is indeed an upgrade, but still clearly just a different flavor of what the HD600 already was. Illustrative ... Read More >>
